So what's the game about?

For years, Final Outpost has challenged players to lead the last survivors in a world where resource management and strategic decision-making are key to survival. The game has been seven years in the making, evolving through major updates, deep system improvements, and an ever-growing community of dedicated players. Players on mobile will be familiar with the core mechanics of the game:

🌾 Resource Management – Gathering meat, wood, and stone to keep your Outpost running while making tough decisions to survive.

⚒️ Building & Crafting – Building essential structures like houses, farms, and defences while crafting tools to increase efficiency.

🛡️ Defending Against Zombies – Fortifying walls, applying skills to citizens, and strategically placing guards to hold back relentless zombie hordes.

👥 Citizen Management – Assigning roles carefully! Should someone gather wood, farm, or repair the wall? Each decision impacts long-term survival. Level up citizens with skill points, boosting their efficiency to improve survival.

🌦️ Dynamic Weather & Changing Conditions – Facing challenges like food shortages, harsh winters, and unpredictable storms that test leadership skills.

With every update, Final Outpost remained true to its core vision which is a survival game where every decision matters, every day is a challenge, and every Outpost tells a unique story. Now, Final Outpost: Definitive Edition takes everything to the next level with expanded mechanics, deeper progression, and new ways to play:

🏕️ Settle Multiple Outposts

For the first time, survival doesn’t stop with a single Outpost. The meta-progression system lets you carry forward experience, knowledge, and game modifiers into future settlements, giving you the tools to build smarter, survive longer, and expand strategically.

💰 Trading System

Survival isn’t just about what you can gather, it’s about what you can trade. Set up a radio tower, connect with traders, and make critical decisions that shape your Outpost’s future. Will you stockpile essentials to trade or spend resources on a big upgrade?

⚔️ Over 30 Modifiers & Difficulty Modes

Customise every aspect of survival with game modifiers and difficulty modes. Want a hardcore challenge with brutal winters and scarce resources? Or prefer a casual survival experience that lets you focus on expansion? The choice is yours.

🎵 New OST & Dynamic Ambience

Immerse yourself with Ben Randall's all-new soundtrack, ambient effects, and environmental audio that reacts to gameplay.

From the major food and defense system overhauls to the UI update that marked the announcement of Final Outpost’s PC release, this game has been years in the making and it's been shaped by an incredible community and a commitment to deep, rewarding strategy. Your support, feedback, and passion have helped make this game what it is today, and we couldn’t have done it without you. Thank you! ❤️

Now, it’s time to start the next chapter. Play now on Steam and start your very own Outpost!

📱 The mobile version is coming a little later, on 12th June. You can pre-order on iOS and pre-register on Android to get the game when it is released.

How do modifiers impact gameplay?

With 38 modifiers and a thousand possible combinations, each Outpost presents unique challenges.

To give you a little taster, here are some examples:

  • Barbed Boundaries - your walls constantly damage zombies

  • Repopulation Doctrine - citizens contribute to the birth rate at all times

  • One Shot, One Kill - snipers do double damage

There are also some negative modifiers we are excited to see you play! For example:

  • Long-term Contracts - no unassigning allowed, except for horde nights

  • Long Lunchbreak - building construction and upgrades can only take place at night

  • Focused Onslaught - on blood moon nights ALL zombies go to either the left wall or the right wall

How do Difficulty Modes work?

Difficulty modes have always been a popular suggestion since Final Outpost began and we are happy to be finally introducing them with Final Outpost Definitive Edition.

Easy and Normal feature a new checkpoint system allowing players to save their progress throughout their survival journey.

  • Easy Mode involves a smoother start with the larger deer populations of Busy Forests and Beginning of the End attracting more survivors to your Outpost's gates

  • Normal and Classic Mode offer a balanced experience with Classic keeping the original mechanics where losing means starting over completely

  • Hardcore Mode ramps up the difficulty with Quieter Forests reducing deer reserves and Tougher Zombies increasing enemy health by 10%

Each difficulty mode has its own set of leaderboards and stamps can be collected as you play through each mode.

Introducing our first OST

Composer Ben Randall has created a brand new soundtrack for the game, featuring main menu and cutscene music, four in-game ambient tracks and dynamic combat music that reacts to the threat level on your walls.

Alongside a range of new sound effects, the new original soundtrack makes it that much easier to get totally immersed in Final Outpost.

Increased Game Speed Controls

We've also included a new 10x fast-foward option for players who want to speedrun their Outpost. This doesn't come without risk, though! It's all too easy to miss a group of survivors or forget to assign your knife fighters...

That's all our Deep Dives! We'll be back on launch day :)

Updated: May 16

Progression has always been a part of Final Outpost but now, for the first time, you can settle more than one Outpost and test your survival skills with collectible gameplay modifiers.

So, how do you reach new Outposts?

There is now a rusty motorhome amongst the rubble in your Outpost. The motorhome contains a procedurally generated map, which lets you plan your route and decide where to settle next.

Once you've repaired the motorhome with parts obtained from the trader, you can move to a new location!

So what happens next?

This is where modifiers come in.

In Final Outpost: Definitive Edition, there are 38 modifiers that change everything from seasons and weather to worker efficiency and zombie horde behaviour.

Each location on the map is associated with a negative modifier, sometimes easier, sometimes incredibly challenging, so route planning is crucial to avoid areas with stamps that you don't like!

After selecting your destination, you pick from a selection of positive modifiers to optimise the situation you find yourself in. A great positive stamp can help you to complete an Outpost with even the toughest negative modifier.

With 1000 possible Outpost modifier combinations, this system brings a new level of replayability to the game. Choose whether to survive as long as possible in a single Outpost or to traverse the map to get a higher prestige level.

We've also introduced the Stamp Book, allowing you to collect the stamps you found along your survival journey.

Every time you leave an Outpost the modifier stamps tied to that Outpost will be added to the Stamp Book, a fun way to document your progress and showcase your accomplishments - with an achievement for 100% completion!

Finally, we added 10 new achievements and leaderboards that track this new progress. Leaderboards will be tied to difficulty modes, which we'll cover in our next deep dive.

The motorhome, map, and stamps bring a whole new level of strategy, competition, and replayability to the game. How many Outposts will you settle?

Our next deep dive will cover the new difficulty modes and OST.
